SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS

Venice Area Garden Club Scholarship Fund was established in 1981 with the first award presented in 1983 in the amount of $500.

Since 1983 the Betty Stewart/Jane Lowe Memorial Scholarship and the Gladys B Susek Memorial Scholarship have provided over $200,000 in funds to students.

Funds for the scholarships are raised by community and business support of the Garden Club Home Tour held each March. Memorial Tributes are also made honoring deceased VAGC members and various other donations are made to the Fund.

The Scholarship Committee works closely with the Rotary Futures Program at Venice High School. Applications are submitted the end of March and reviewed by the committee. Their recommendations are submitted to the VAGC Board for final approval.

Scholarships are awarded seniors for their first year of college enrollment and a renewable scholarship may be awarded to a previous recipient. As most scholarships cover only the first year of college, our applicants have an opportunity to reapply each year they are in college.

The Garden Cub members find it rewarding to have helped local students who enrolled in Marine Biology, Conservation, Landscape Design, Ecology and other related studies.

Scholarship recipients and their parents are invited to be our guests at our annual Spring Luncheon, held in May, and presented their certificates for scholarship.
